Kikoru Shinomiya is one of the main protagonists of the Kaiju No. 8 series. She is the daughter of the Defense Forces General Director Isao Shinomiya and a member of the third division. After the destruction of the Tachikawa base, Kikoru was transferred to the First Division. Kikoru is also a main character in Kaiju No. 8: B-Side, a spin-off series of Kaiju No. 8.

On the day of the exam, Kikoru asks Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa to change their parking spot, as number 5 is her lucky number of the day. Her behavior greatly annoys the two men, especially the elder, and frustrated with the delay, she decides to move the vehicle herself. Thanks to her suit, she accomplishes this without any issue, to the shock of Kafka and Reno.

After introducing herself, she notices that Hibino has sent the kaiju, but his friend quickly explains they are cleaners. She is then stunned when she witnesses a surprising scene: Kafka also manages to move his car, but unlike her, he does it without a suit. He introduces himself in the same bold manner as Kikoru.
