Soshiro Hoshina is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Forces and a member of the Hoshina family, a renowned clan of swordsmen from the Muromachi period. He is also the younger brother of Soichiro Hoshina.

Soshiro has a strong sense of loyalty to the Defense Forces and is deeply grateful to his captain, Mina Ashiro, for allowing him to join her division. His loyalty to his role in the force is so strong that he sees it as his sole purpose in life.

Though his skills place him at a disadvantage against large kaiju, his ability to defeat small- and medium-sized kaiju in combat surpasses even the captain of the First Division, Gen Narumi.

His older brother and captain of the Sixth Division, Soichiro Hoshina, claims that Soshiro stands above everyone in the Hoshina family, past or present. As vice-captain, Soshiro is capable of utilizing an extremely high level of power from his combat suit.
