The Escargophones (, Den Den Mushi), often called Den Den Mushi, are snails that are usually seen with phones and/or fax machines attached to their shells. They allow multiple people to communicate even over very long distances. They reproduce the gestures (of the mouth in particular) of the speakers. Throughout history, snailophones will be used extensively, not only for communication, but also for other tasks, such as surveillance (at Impel Down). The Minks tribe on the island of Zo do not use snail phones. The inhabitants of Waland use miniature versions of Snailophones.They are classified as type B, “Small and Kind.”
