Ken Kaneki, once a mere human, he was studying Japanese Literature as a 1st year student at Kamii University, thus living a relatively normal life.

However, things changed quickly after Dr. Akihiro Kano transplanted Lize Kamishiro’s RC Cells into him, turning him into an Artificial Ghoul.
He later joined the Antique, a cafe known to Ghouls as a meeting place, as a part-time waiter. Thanks to the members of the Antique, Ken tried to learn how to live like the Ghouls do and eventually adopted the nickname of Hide-Eye.
