Soshiro Hoshina is the vice-captain of the third division of the Defense Forces and a member of the Hoshina family, a renowned clan of swordsmen from the Muromachi period. He is also the younger brother of Soichiro Hoshina.

Soshiro has a strong sense of loyalty to the Defense Forces and is deeply grateful to his captain, Mina Ashiro, for allowing him to join her division. His loyalty to his role in the force is so profound that he sees it as his only reason to live.

Although his skills put him at a disadvantage against large kaiju, his ability to defeat small and medium-sized kaiju in combat surpasses that of the First Division captain: Gen Narumi.

His older brother and captain of the Sixth Division, Soichiro Hoshina, states that Soshiro stands above everyone in the Hoshina family, past or present. As vice-captain, Soshiro is capable of using an extremely high amount of power from his combat suit.
